| Caduet is a combination of Amlodipine and Atorvastatin. Caduet is used to treat high blood pressure or angina (chest pain) that occurs together with elevated levels of cholesterol or triglycerides. Atorvastatin is in a class of drugs called HMG CoA reductase inhibitors. Atorvastatin blocks the production of cholesterol (a type of fat) in the body. Amlodipine is in a class of drugs called calcium channel blockers. Amlodipine relaxes (widens) the blood vessels (veins and arteries), making it easier for the heart to pump and reducing its workload. Caduet may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. | ||
| Drug Mechanism: How does Product Title work? | ||
| Caduet contains a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (Amlodipine) and a 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor (Atorvastatin). Amlodipine inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions across cell membranes with a greater effect on vascular smooth muscle than on cardiac muscle, causing a reduction in peripheral vascular resistance and a reduction in blood pressure. Atorvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase and cholesterol synthesis in the liver and increases the number of hepatic low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptors on the cell surface, thereby lowering plasma cholesterol and lipoprotein levels. | ||
