Generic Cleocin treats serious blood, bone, joint, lung, urinary tract, or pelvic infections.

Generic Cleocin will not work for colds, flu, or other virus infections.

Generic Cleocin has a similar range of antibacterial activity to the penicillins and is useful as an alternative antibiotic in those people who are allergic to penicillins or for infections caused by bacteria called staphylococci that have become resistant to penicillin. In addition it is active against anaerobes (bacteria that are able to live and grow in the absence of free oxygen).

However, Generic Cleocin is not a widely used antibiotic because the risk of developing antibiotic-associated colitis (inflammation of the colon) is greater with Generic Cleocin compared to other antibiotics. This usually results in severe diarrhoea and Generic Cleocin should be stopped immediately if this occurs.

Take at regular intervals, every 6 or 8 hours, during the day and night. It is best to take Generic Cleocin 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating; take the capsules with a full glass of water. Do not lie down for 1-2 hours after taking Generic Cleocin to avoid irritation to your throat.

If Generic Cleocin upsets your stomach you can take Generic Cleocin with food.

Adults and teenagers
150 to 300 mg of Generic Cleocin every six hours.

Children
Infants up to 1 month of age:
Your doctor must determine use and dose of Generic Cleocin.

Infants and children 1 month of age and older:
Generic Cleocin dose is based on body weight. The usual dose is 2 to 5 mg per kilogram (kg) (0.9 to 2.3 mg per pound) of body weight every six hours; or 2.7 to 6.7 mg per kg (1.2 to 3.0 mg per pound) of body weight every eight hours.

If you miss a Generic Cleocin dose
If you miss a dose of Generic Cleocin, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses of Generic Cleocin.

Generic Cleocin Overdose
Generic Cleocin overdose may lead to serious consequences. Seek medical emergency immediately.

Symptoms of Generic Cleocin overdose may include

• abdominal pain,
• nausea,
• vomiting, and
• diarrhea

Generic Cleocin Storage instructions
Keep Generic Cleocin out of the reach of children in a container that small children cannot open.

Store Generic Cleocin at room temperature between 15-30 degrees C (59-86 degrees F) Throw away any unused amount of Generic Cleocin after the expiration date.

Generic Cleocin Preparations: Capsule- 150mg, 300mg

The following drugs should not be taken with Generic Cleocin

• chloramphenicol
• erythromycin
• kaolin products
• medicines for pain
• oral contraceptives (birth control pills). Generic Cleocin may decrease the effectiveness of the combined oral contraceptive pill.

Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way Generic Cleocin works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.

Generic Cleocin precautions if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
Generic Cleocin has not been reported to cause birth defects or other problems in humans.

Generic Cleocin passes into the breast milk. However, Generic Cleocin has not been reported to cause problems in nursing babies.

Special warnings about Generic Cleocin
Tell your prescriber or health care professional if your symptoms do not improve in a few days.

Call your prescriber or health care professional if you get diarrhea. Do not treat yourself. Some diarrhea medicine will make the diarrhea worse.

If you have to have surgery, tell your prescriber or health care professional that you are taking Generic Cleocin.

Why Generic Cleocin should not be prescribed?

Generic Cleocin should not be used if you have allergy to the antibiotic lincomycin.

Generic Cleocin should not be used if you have diarrhea.

Generic Cleocin should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have previously experienced such an allergy.

If you feel you have experienced an allergic reaction, stop using Generic Cleocin and inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

Possible Generic Cleocin Side effects
More common side effects of Generic Cleocin may include:

• abdominal or stomach cramps and pain,
• abdominal tenderness,
• diarrhea (watery and severe),
• fever,
• nausea and vomiting,

Less common or rare side effects of Generic Cleocin may include:

• sore throat and fever,
• skin rash,
• redness, and itching,
• unusual bleeding or bruising,
• itching of rectal, or genital (sex organ) areas
