Drug Class: What is Differin and why is it prescribed?
Generic Differin is a compound similar to vitamin A. Generic Differin helps the skin to renew itself more quickly and therefore reduces pimple and blackhead formation. Generic Differin is a gel and is prescribed for the treatment of acne vulgaris (pimples).
Differin Mechanism: How does Differin work?
The exact mechanism of action of Generic Differin is not known. Scientists believe that when Generic Differin (Adapalene) is applied to the skin, it affects the growth of skin cells and thereby reduces the formation of pimples.
Differin Dosage: How should you take Differin
Generic Differin should be applied once a day at bedtime. Wash the affected areas, then apply a thin layer of the Generic Differin gel. Avoid eyes, lips, mouth, and nostrils. If you are using a single-use pledget, remove it from the foil just before using, and discard it after applying the medication. Do not use if the seal is broken.
Use Generic Differin exactly as prescribed. Applying excessive amounts or using the gel more than once a day will not produce better results and may cause severe redness, peeling, and discomfort.
If you miss a Generic Differin dose
Do not try to make it up. Simply return to your regular schedule on the following day. The usual dose of Generic Differin is a thin film applied over the acne-affected area just before bedtime.
