Generic Trimox is also used before some surgery or dental work to prevent infection. Generic Trimox will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.

Generic Trimox also is used occasionally to treat a chlamydia infection during pregnancy.

In combination with other drugs such as Prevacid and Biaxin, Generic Trimox is also used to treat duodenal ulcers caused by H. pylori bacteria (ulcers in the wall of the small intestine near the exit from the stomach).

Generic Trimox is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that kills a wide variety of bacteria that cause a wide variety of commonly-occuring infections.

Generic Trimox may be used to treat infections of the upper or lower airways, skin or soft tissue, or ears.

Generic Trimox may also be used to treat urine infections, certain sexually-transmitted infections, dental infections, and infections affecting the blood or internal organs.

To make sure the bacteria causing an infection are susceptible to Generic Trimox your doctor may take a tissue sample, for example a swab from the throat or skin, or a urine or blood sample.

ADULTS

Ear, Nose, Throat, Skin, Genital, and Urinary Tract Infections:
The usual dosage is 250 milligrams, taken every 8 hours.

Infections of the Lower Respiratory Tract:
The usual dosage is 500 milligrams, taken every 8 hours.

Gonorrhea:
The usual dosage is 3 grams in a single oral dose.

Gonococcal Infections Such as Acute, Uncomplicated Anogenital and Urethral Infections:
3 grams as a single oral dose.

Ulcers:
1 gram of Generic Trimox in combination with 500 milligrams of Biaxin and 30 milligrams of Prevacid taken every 12 hours for 14 days.

Alternatively, 1 gram of Generic Trimox can be taken with 30 milligrams of Prevacid every 8 hours for 14 days.

CHILDREN

Children weighing 44 pounds and over should follow the recommended adult dose schedule.

Children weighing under 44 pounds will have their dosage determined by their weight.

If you miss a Generic Trimox dose
Take the missed dose of Generic Trimox as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of Generic Trimox to make up for a missed one.

Generic Trimox Overdose
Generic Trimox taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.

Symptoms of Generic Trimox overdose may include:

• diarrhea,
• nausea,
• stomach cramps,
• vomiting

Generic Trimox Storage instructions
Keep Generic Trimox in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store the capsules and tablets at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any amount of Generic Trimox that is outdated or no longer needed. The liquid medication preferably should be kept in the refrigerator, but it may be stored at room temperature. Throw away any unused amount of Generic Trimox after 14 days. Do not freeze. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.

Generic Trimox Preparations:
Generic Trimox Capsules - 250mg, 500mg.
Generic Trimox Tablets: 250 mg, 500mg
Generic Trimox Chewable tablets: 125 mg, 250 mg.
Generic Trimox Pediatric drops: 50 mg per ml.
Generic Trimox Suspension: 125 mg per 5 ml teaspoon, 250 mg per 5 ml teaspoon

Generic Trimox may decrease the removal of methotrexate from the body, increasing the risk of side effects. If you are taking methotrexate you should be well monitored by your doctor while you are taking a course of Generic Trimox.

Probenecid increases the blood level of Generic Trimox, and people taking probenecids may be prescribed a lower dose of Generic Trimox.

Generic Trimox may rarely alter the anti-blood-clotting effects of anticoagulant medicines such as warfarin. Your doctor may wish to monitor your blood clotting time while you are taking both medicines.

If you are taking a combined oral contraceptive pill there may be a very low risk that Generic Trimox may make it less effective at preventing pregnancy. Although the risk of this is very low, the personal and ethical consequences of an unwanted pregnancy can be very serious. For this reason the Family Planning Association recommends that women taking combined oral contraceptives should use an extra method of contraception (eg condoms) while taking a short course of Generic Trimox, and for seven days after finishing the course. If the seven days run beyond the end of a pill packet, a new packet should be started without a break (in the case of ED pills the inactive tablets should be omitted).

Generic Trimox precautions if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
Generic Trimox should be used during pregnancy only when clearly needed. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, inform your doctor immediately.

Since Generic Trimox may appear in breast milk, you should consult your doctor if you plan to breastfeed your baby.

Special warnings about Generic Trimox
If you have ever had asthma, hives, hay fever, or other allergies, consult with your doctor before taking Generic Trimox.
You should stop using Generic Trimox if you experience reactions such as bruising, fever, skin rash, itching, joint pain, swollen lymph nodes, and/or sores on the genitals. If these reactions occur, stop taking Generic Trimox unless your doctor advises you to continue.
For infections such as strep throat, it is important to take Generic Trimox for the entire amount of time your doctor has prescribed. Even if you feel better, you need to continue taking Generic Trimox. If you stop taking Generic Trimox before your treatment time is complete, you may get other infections, such as glomerulonephritis (a kidney infection) or rheumatic fever.

If you are diabetic, be aware that Generic Trimox may cause a false positive Clinitest (urine glucose test) result to occur. You should consult with your doctor about using different tests while taking Generic Trimox.

Before taking Generic Trimox, tell your doctor if you have ever had asthma, colitis (inflammatory bowel disease), diabetes, or kidney or liver disease.

Possible Generic Trimox Side effects

Side effects of Generic Trimox may include:

• agitation,
• anemia,
• anxiety,
• changes in behavior,
• colitis,
• confusion,
• convulsions,
• diarrhea,
• dizziness,
• hives,
• hyperactivity,
• insomnia,
• liver problems and jaundice,
• nausea,
• peeling skin,
• rash,
• tooth discoloration in children, and
• vomiting.
