Generic Amoxicillin (Amoxil) is a penicillin-like antibiotic, is used to treat a wide variety of infections, including: gonorrhea, middle ear infections, skin infections, upper and lower respiratory tract infections, and infections of the genital and urinary tract. Generic Amoxicillin also is used before some surgery or dental work to prevent infection. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections. Generic Amoxicillin also is used occasionally to treat a chlamydia infection during pregnancy. In combination with other drugs such as Prevacid and Biaxin, Generic Amoxicillin is also used to treat duodenal ulcers caused by H. pylori bacteria (ulcers in the wall of the small intestine near the exit from the stomach). |

Overdosage of Generic Amoxicillin: Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately. If Generic Amoxicillin is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Generic Amoxicillin with the following: Chloramphenicol (Chloromycetin), Erythromycin (E.E.S., pce, others), Oral contraceptives, Probenecid, Tetracycline (Achromycin V, others). |

Special information on Amoxicillin, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, Amoxicillin should be used during pregnancy only when clearly needed. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. Since Amoxicillin may appear in breast milk, you should consult your doctor if you plan to breastfeed your baby. Most important fact about Amoxicillin: If you are allergic to either penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics in any form, consult your doctor before taking Amoxicillin. Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (or OHSS, enlargement of the ovary) has occurred in women receiving treatment with clomiphene. OHSS may progress rapidly and become serious. The early warning signs are severe pelvic pain, nausea, vomiting, and weight gain. Symptoms include abdominal pain, abdominal enlargement, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weight gain, difficult or labored breathing, and less urine production. If you experience any of these warning signs or symptoms, notify your doctor immediately. To lessen the risks associated with abnormal ovarian enlargement during treatment with clomiphene, the lowest effective Generic Amoxicillin dose should be prescribed. Women with the hormonal disorder, polycystic ovarian syndrome, may be unusually sensitive to certain hormones and may respond abnormally to usual doses of Generic Amoxicillin. If you experience pelvic pain, notify your doctor. He may discontinue your use of clomiphene until the ovaries return to pretreatment size. Because the safety of long-term treatment with clomiphene has not been established, your doctor will not prescribe more than about 6 courses of therapy. Prolonged use may increase the risk of a tumor in the ovaries. |
