Generic Avodart reduces urinary blockage and improves urine flow. This medicine should not be used in women and children.

Generic Avodart works by inhibiting the action of a compound in the body called 5-alpha reductase. Generic Avodart (Dutasteride) is called an enzyme, and is responsible for converting the male hormone testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is a more active form of testosterone.

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor.

• Take 1 Generic Avodart capsule once a day.
• Swallow the capsule whole.
• You can take Generic Avodart with or without food.
• You may find it helpful to take Generic Avodart at the same time every day to help you remember to take your dose.

If you miss a dose of Generic Avodart
If you miss a dose of Generic Avodart and you remember the same day, take it as soon as possible. If you do not remember until the next day, skip the missed dose of Generic Avodart and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses of Generic Avodart at once.

Generic Avodart Storage instructions
Store Generic Avodart at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) is permitted. Do not store in the bathroom. Generic Avodart capsules may soften and leak if stored at high temperatures. If your capsules crack and leak, do not use them. Contact your pharmacist. If your skin comes in contact with the leaking capsules, wash the area immediately with soap and water.

Special Precautions if you are pregnant or breast feeding
Because Generic Avodart can be absorbed through the skin, pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, and breastfeeding women should strictly avoid skin contact with the drug. If Generic Avodart is accidentally absorbed by a pregnant woman who is carrying a male fetus, the drug could cause abnormal development of the baby\'s genital organs. Because it\'s not known if Generic Avodart appears in breast milk, breastfeeding women must also avoid handling the drug.

Special Warnings about Generic Avodart

• If a pregnant or breastfeeding woman is exposed to Generic Avodart, the drug may harm the developing baby
• You should not donate blood while taking Generic Avodart or for 6 months after stopping treatment to avoid exposing pregnant or breastfeeding women to blood that contains the drug.

Why Generic Avodart should not be prescribed?
You should not take Generic Avodart if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it or to similar drugs such as finasteride (Proscar).

Women and children should not use Generic Avodart.

Side effects of Generic Avodart that may occur while taking this medicine include a change in sexual function

• e.g., impotence,
• decreased interest in sex,
• decrease in amount of ejaculate.

These effects may go away as your body adjusts to the medicine. Breast tenderness or enlargement may also occur while you are taking Generic Avodart. If these effects continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. An allergic reaction to Generic Avodart is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
