| Aceon is in a class of drugs called angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors). Aceon is a medication which lowers blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels; it is not a cure. High blood pressure levels can damage your kidneys, and may lead to a stroke or heart failure. Aceon can be taken alone or in combination with thiazide diuretics that help the body get rid of excess water. Aceon may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. |

| Aceon belongs to a group of medicines called ACE inhibitors, which block the action of a chemical in the body called angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE). Normally ACE produces another chemical, angiotensin. Thus Aceon reduces the amount of angiotensin in the blood. Angiotensin has two actions. Firstly it acts on blood vessels to make them narrow and secondly it acts on the kidney to produce less urine. As Aceon stops the production of angiotensin, these actions are reversed.
