Generic Prevacid 15 mg (Lansoprazole) is in a class of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPI), which block the production of acid, by the stomach.

Other drugs in the same class as Generic Prevacid 15 mg, include rabeprazole (Aciphex), omeprazole (Prilosec) and pantoprazole (Protonix). Proton pump inhibitors are used for the treatment of conditions such as ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and Zollinger-Ellison

Generic Prevacid 15 mg, Lansoprazole, like other proton-pump inhibitors, blocks the enzyme in the wall of the stomach that produces acid. By blocking the enzyme, the production of acid is decreased, and this allows the stomach and esophagus to heal.

Generic Prevacid dosage should be taken before meals. If you have trouble swallowing the Generic Prevacid capsules, you can sprinkle the contents on a tablespoon of applesauce; swallow immediately without chewing or crushing the granules. You can also mix the granules with 2 ounces of orange juice or tomato juice. (Rinse the glass with an additional 4 ounces of juice to make sure you get the entire dose of Generic Prevacid).

If Generic Prevacid 15 mg is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of Generic Prevacid 15 mg either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Generic Prevacid 15 mg with the following:

Ampicillin, Digoxin (Lanoxin), Iron salts (Ferro-Sequels, Ferro-Sulfate), Ketoconazole (Nizoral), Sucralfate (Carafate), Theophylline (Theo-Dur).

Special information on Generic Prevacid 15 mg, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, the effects of Generic Prevacid 15 mg in pregnant women have not been adequately studied. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, tell your doctor.

It is not known whether Generic Prevacid 15 mg appears in human breast milk. If this medication is essential to your health, your doctor may have you stop breastfeeding your baby while you are taking it.
