Alustra acts by decreasing the formation of melanin in the skin. Melanin is the pigment in skin that gives it a brown color.

Alustra will work best if you avoid excessive exposure to sunlight and wear sunscreens and protective clothing.

Alustra contains hydroquinone which is a melanocytotoxic chemical which is oxidized in the melanocytes to produce highly toxic compounds such as quinones. These cytotoxic compounds are responsible for the destruction of pigment cells, which results in skin depigmentation.
