Duricef is a cephalosporin antibiotic.

Duricef is used in the treatment of infections caused by bacteria. Duricef works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth.

Duricef is used to treat infections of the skin, respiratory tract, sinuses, ears, and urinary tract.

Duricef is sometimes given with other antibiotics. Duricef will not work for colds, flu, or other virus infections.

The usual dose of Duricef for uncomplicated infections is a total of 1 to 2 grams per day in a single dose or 2 smaller doses of Duricef. For all other urinary tract infections, the usual dose of Duricef is a total of 2 grams per day taken in 2 doses.

The removal of Duricef from the body may be slowed if given with probenecid.

Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your Duricef works.

Take Duricef exactly as prescribed. It is important that you take all the prescribed amount of Duricef to obtain the maximum benefit.

Duricef precautions if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
There are no known harmful effects when Duricef is used during pregnancy.

Duricef passes into breast milk. Seek medical advice from your doctor before using Duricef during breastfeeding.

Special warnings about

• black, tarry stools,
• chest pain,
• chills,
• cough,
• fever,
• painful or difficult urination,
• shortness of breath,
• sore throat,
• sores, ulcers, or white spots on lips or in mouth,
• swollen glands,
• unusual tiredness or weakness.

Less common side effects of Duricef may include:
