Omnicef (Cefdinir) is a cephalosporin antibiotic. Cephalosporins are used in the treatment of infections caused by bacteria. They work by killing bacteria or preventing their growth.

Omnicef is used to treat many kinds of infections including those of the skin, respiratory tract, sinuses, ears, and urinary tract.

Omnicef inhibits cell wall synthesis, thus destroying microorganisms. Omnicef remains stable in presence of some b -lactamase enzymes; thereby Omnicef is active against many microorganisms that are resistant to the penicillin s and other cephalosporin antibiotics.

Take Omnicef capsules by mouth. Swallow the capsules with a drink of water. You can take Omnicef with or without food.
If Omnicef upsets your stomach, it may help to take Omnicef with food.

For adults and adolescents 13 years and over, the maximum daily Omnicef dose is 600 milligrams, regardless of the infection under treatment.
