Drug Class: What is Trimox and why is Trimox prescribed?

Trimox (amoxicillin) is a penicillin-like antibiotic. Trimox is used to treat a wide variety of infections, including: gonorrhea, middle ear infections, skin infections, upper and lower respiratory tract infections, and infections of the genital and urinary tract.

Trimox is also used before some surgery or dental work to prevent infection. Trimox will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.

Trimox also is used occasionally to treat a chlamydia infection during pregnancy.

In combination with other drugs such as Prevacid and Biaxin, Trimox is also used to treat duodenal ulcers caused by H. pylori bacteria (ulcers in the wall of the small intestine near the exit from the stomach).
