Dosage: How should you take Lasix?

Take Lasix 40 mg exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor will adjust the Lasix dosages of this strong diuretic to meet your specific needs.

Lasix dosage for adults:

• Fluid Retention: You will probably be started at a single dose of 20 to 80 milligrams. If needed, the same dose can be repeated 6 to 8 hours later, or the dose may be increased. Your doctor may raise the dosage by 20 milligrams or 40 milligrams with each successive administration-- each 6 to 8 hours after the previous dose--until the desired effect is achieved. This Lasix dosage is then taken once or twice daily thereafter. Your doctor should monitor you carefully using laboratory tests. The maximum daily dose of Lasix is 600 milligrams.
  
• High Blood Pressure: The usual starting dose of Lasix is 80 milligrams per day divided into 2 doses. Your doctor will adjust the dosages and may add other high blood pressure medications if Lasix is not enough.

Lasix dosage for children:

The usual initial Lasix dose is 2 milligrams per 2.2 pounds of body weight given in a single oral dose. The doctor may increase subsequent doses by 1 to 2 milligrams per 2.2 pounds. Lasix doses are spaced 6 to 8 hours apart. A child's Lasix dosage will be adjusted to the lowest needed to achieve maximum effect, and should not exceed 6 milligrams per 2.2 pounds.

Lasix Overdose: Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. An overdose of Lasix can cause symptoms of severe dehydration. If you suspect an overdose of Lasix, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of Lasix overdose may include: Dry mouth, excessive thirst, low blood pressure, muscle pain or cramps, nausea and vomiting, weak or irregular heartbeat, weakness or drowsiness.

If you miss a dose of Lasix: Take the forgotten dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next Lasix dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Never take 2 Lasix doses at the same time.

Storage instructions for Lasix 40 mg: Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and away from direct light. Store at room temperature.
