|Drug Class: What is Tenoretic and why is Tenoretic prescribed?|
Tenoretic is used in the treatment of high blood pressure.
Tenoretic combines Atenlol (a beta-blocker drug) and Chlorthalidone (a diuretic). Tenoretic can be used alone or in combination with other high blood pressure medications. Atenolol, the beta-blocker, decreases the force and rate of heart contractions. Chlorthalidone, the diuretic, helps your body produce and eliminate more urine, which helps in lowering blood pressure.
|Drug Mechanism: How does Tenoretic work?|
Tenoretic is a combination of Atenolol (Tenormin) and Chlorthalidone (Hygroton) used for the treatment of high blood pressure. Atenolol is a beta-adrenergic blocking agent.
Tenoretic (Atenolol) blocks the action of the sympathetic nervous system, a portion of the involuntary nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system stimulates the pace of the heartbeat. By blocking the action of these nerves, Tenoretic (Atenolol) reduces the heart rate and is useful in treating abnormally rapid heart rhythms.
